I want to make learning fun and accessible for all! I have set my blog to share for FREE ideas and free printables that I create to use at home with my own children (currently 8 and 6) and in the classroom - I have worked in EYFS, KS1 and now KS2. I have a PGCE with Early years specialism, Montessori Diploma for early years and currently completing my level 3 Forest school qualification. I am passionate about making learning fun and accessible for all. A holistic education to help the whole child. To encourage independence, resilience and a love of learning new things. I am always looking for new ideas so if you have anything that you would like to share please get in touch.

Who better to tell us what it’s like to be an Autistic teenager at Christmas than an Autistic teenager?

“Why Christmas doesn’t suit ‘my’ autism, by me an autistic teenager”

🎄 Change in routine for everyone, and it’s everywhere. Home, School, shops, restaurants, radio, TV… EVERYWHERE!

🎊Sensory OVERLOAD, extra lights, colours, decorations, music, new unusual smells & food

⛄️ Excitement from everyone, whether I know them or not. Processing all of this, makes life harder work than usual.

🎁 My ‘behaviour’ may become inappropriate, I may push for more control, I may not be so great socially, I may seem sad, I may seem withdrawn, I may refuse to do things & I can’t help any of that…

❄️ Please respect if I need to hide a little. I’m NOT being awkward, it’s NOT that I WON’T participate, I CAN’T participate.

🌟 If I’m not responding the way you believe is appropriate, HELP ME. Don’t punish me or push me further into festivities.

💛 Give me some Christmas-free space if possible.

This is my experience, and I hope it’s useful to others.

Would you like more help understanding your autistic teenager? Get in touch, send us a message and we will send you some appropriate resources.

NOTE: Be kind. This is one persons experience and not representative of ALL experiences. It is still valid nonetheless.
