Magnetic Slimme Uk Recipe

I have seen the recipe that is going around for magnetic slime at the moment by FrugalFun4Boys.  There are others too, but they all seem to use either borax which is not popular in the UK, or like this recipe, liquid starch.

So, I decided to play around with my Borax free slime recipe and I have finally got it right – so exciting!  We have had a great time this afternoon exploring it and now want to share 🙂

Shopping list!

Strong magnets – these Neodymium Magnet are very strong so use them carefully – I actually put them on the end of our magnet wand to make it easier for Seb to explore.

Almat Gel washing liquid from Aldi – just £1.99 a bottle – bargain!  Make sure you get the bio one as others won’t work.

5 litre tub of PVA that I got from Hope Education.  You can also find smaller quantities on Amazon.

Iron Oxide powder – this is 500g so a good supply which would make several batches of slime.

Seb using magnet slime

How to make it:

I decided to make this in quite a small batch so that the focus was on the magnetism.

First measure out 1/2 cup of PVA glue.

Mix with 1/4 cup of warm water.

Next add 8 tablespoons of Iron Oxide powder.  Mix well, be careful not to breath the powder as it isn’t good for you.

Once it is all mixed well begin to add 1 tablespoon of Almat Gel washing liquid mix each on in well.  It should begin to come together as a slime.

When it is a big clump and the sides of your bowl are nearly clean you are ready to go.  If you are still finding the slime a bit sticky then add in one more dash of Almat Gel washing liquid  and mix well again.

Now you can explore with the magnets!  Have fun!
